I am blown away by I Am Second, a social media campaign that debuted this week that’s highlighted by one of the most impressive Web sites I’ve seen.
Beyond the layout of the site. Beyond the massive amounts of creativity that went in to it. Beyond the personal stories of people you’ll recognize, and the everyday people you won’t…
It’s the message.

As a Christian, I think it’s a major understatement for me to say that it spreads a powerful message of the importance of faith. The videos feature the life stories of people like Brian Welch from Korn, baseball star Josh Hamilton, actor Stephen Baldwin and NFL coach Joe Gibbs.
Great work.
But by who? And, what’s the story behind it?
Well, some text on the site describes “I Am Second” as a movement where significance in life is a shared value among people of all kinds. Actors. Athletes. Musicians. Business leaders. Your next-door neighbor. People just like you… You’ll meet people who overcame destructive lifestyles. Plus, you’ll discover those who’ve tried to go it alone and have failed, yet still found a life of hope, peace and fulfillment… We believe there is a reason why you are here. We all have needs and could use some help… I Am Second is designed to help people discover their purpose in life. Have you discovered yours?
The mystery is, who’s the “We” referenced in that text? I can’t find any information on the Web at this time as to who’s behind it, or who is coordinating it.
But, under a heading at the top of the home page that says “Find an I Am Second Group,” it has links to six churches in the Dallas area. And, Dallas photogragher Trey Hill blogged about his involvement in the project. Perhaps it’s a joint project of these churches?
(UPDATE: See the comments below, it’s the work of Simply Interactive and Ditore Mayo)
In any case, it’s worth spending your time on.
By the way, there also are videos on the site related to several common questions believers and non-believers in God often have. Like the rest of the site, they’re well-produced and well-organized.
(UPDATE: There is now an official I Am Second blog – Thanks, Trey Hill)

Hi Kevin,
I came across your blog and wanted to say thanks for promoting the campaign. The site was built and designed by Simply Interactive (simplyinteractive.net) out of Austin, Texas of which I had the privilege of being lead designer. The video was done by the incredibly gifted team over at Ditore Mayo out of Dallas. (http://ditoremayo.com/)
Again, thanks so much for your kind words and thanks so much for spreading the word and pointing people to the site of which we all hope ultimately points people to a loving, forgiving, non-condemning, gracious, merciful, powerful God.
Blessings,
Brian Simpson
